Rainforest Retreat by day, Volcano exploration by Night

Are you headed to the Island of Hawai’i (Big Island)? Then chances are, Volcanoes National Park is already in your Itinerary. While most people stay in Kona and drive to Volcanoes National Park, I highly recommend staying at least a day or two in the area to fully enjoy what the park has to offer. There is so much to do and see aside from the lava glow viewing of the active Kilauea volcano.
Don’t underestimate the 4+ hours back and forth drive needed for a day trip to the Park from Kona. If you're not from the Islands, driving at night in Big Island may seem as if you're driving in pitch black darkness. This is due to the lack of street lights on the Island.

Recommended accommodation near Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park - Volcano Inn Bed & Breakfast

While on the hunt for an accommodation near Volcanoes National Park, I found this unique Bed & Breakfast which I consider a hidden gem! I’m surprised about its lack of popularity and especially how a lot of people have never heard about this. For me, even staying there on its own was an experience! You are almost guaranteed to feel as if you’ve been transported to a lush rainforest retreat as you walk by the property gardens.

Corner Window Room

Pro Tip:
If you plan on staying at this lovely B&B, I recommend making a reservation for a corner window room. They are a premium upgrade to their regular B&B rooms. Plus its located in a more private and secluded side of the building.
We only had to walk to the building we were assigned to versus the other rooms where you had to drive off to. They have other types of rooms but I recommend the corner window rooms. It’s safe to say, it’s a personal favorite of mine.
According to Volcano Inn,

“A wise Hawaiian proverb is: Hahai no ka ua i ka ulu laau. It means the rain follows after the rain forest. If you destroy the rain forest, the rain will cease to fall, and land will become a desert. If it rains during your stay here, according to the Hawaiian culture, it’s a blessing.”

And guess what? I’m happy to report that it DID in fact rain during our stay. It only added to the ambiance and allure of the rainforest garden that overlooks our floor to ceiling window. Where I spent my time admiring the beauty of the views from the comfort of our room.
During our stay, I appreciated how quiet and serene the property was. You only ever hear the sound of rain, chirping of birds or insects buzzing. It was a getaway I didn't think we needed til we got there. It was like we were off-grid and no one else was around but us. Matter of fact, we barely saw any guests throughout the day or night. The only time we ever really saw anyone was in the common area where we had breakfast. Breakfast that we were happy to look forward to every morning! It consisted of freshly baked banana bread and papaya bowls. Paired with choice of coffee or juice.
Additionally, they have a hot tub that’s open 24/7 that we took full advantage of. Picture a relaxing soak in the tub surrounded by rainforest plants, as you unwind from a full day of adventuring.
